BOSTON – Returning to Massachusetts for three-straight games in the Bay State, the Boston University women's basketball program heads to UMass Lowell on Wednesday (Nov. 16). Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
BU will play its second of six non-conference bouts in the state of Massachusetts this season, including home games. The Terriers are in a stretch of five road contests in seven games.
UMass Lowell hosts its 2022-23 home opener following two road matchups to open the campaign. Wednesday night marks the first of a three-game homestand for the River Hawks, all coming against New England-based teams.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU recently dropped an 81-46 road decision at the University of Miami on Sunday (Nov. 13).
- Returning to her home state, junior Kelsi Mingo scored eight of her 11 points in the fourth quarter for her second-career game in double figures.
- Senior Sydney Johnson made her first appearance of the season, totaling 11 points as well.
- Thirteen of Mingo's 17 career field goals (76.4 percent) have come from beyond the arc, where she is shooting 50 percent in her two-plus seasons as a Terrier.
- After securing seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocks against the Hurricanes, junior Caitlin Weimar leads the Terriers in all three categories this season.
- In addition, she is 10 field goals away from 200 in her collegiate career.
- As a team, the Terriers are 16th in the nation after the first week of the season with 6.5 blocks per game.
- Sophomore Alex Giannaros was an honorable mention in the first installment of the Patriot League's weekly awards following her 23-point effort against Northeastern on Nov. 17.
- The Brockton, Mass. native is two baskets away from 100 in her career.
- Last year, BU went 4-3 against Massachusetts-based teams, including non-conference wins over UMass Lowell, Boston College, and Merrimack.
- On Tuesday (Nov. 15), the coaching staff announced the official commitment to three Terriers for the BU Class of 2027: Aoibhe Gormley, Audrey Ericksen, and Inés Monteagudo.

SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
- UMass Lowell is 0-2 following 81-53 and 93-37 losses to Boston College and No. 11 Indiana, respectively.
- As a team, the River Hawks have shot just 30.2 percent. However, they are forcing opponents to make just 23.5 percent of their three-pointers.
- Jaini Edmonds and Jaliena Sanchez have both averaged 9.5 points per game to pace UMass Lowell.
- Kaylen Banwareesingh is the River Hawks' leading rebounder with 8.5 per contest.
- Overall, seven upperclassmen return under Head Coach Denise King, who is in her second season.
- UMass Lowell was projected to finish sixth in the America East Preseason Poll after going 11-16 in 2021-22, reaching the America EAst quarterfinal round with an 8-9 mark.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU and UMass Lowell are meeting for the eighth time overall, and the fourth since the River Hawks were elevated to Division I.
- The Terriers hold a 5-2 lead in the rivalry, and are 2-1 since 2015, when UMass Lowell transitioned to D1.
- BU has won five of the last six matchups. This will be the first time since 2015-16 that the programs are playing in back-to-back seasons.
- Head Coach Melissa Graves won her first game as a Terrier in the last tilt between the teams, which came in the season opener on Nov. 8, 2021.
- BU's 76-47 victory was the largest margin of victory in a season lidlifter for the Terriers since 1977.
- Johnson paced the Terriers with 13 points, five steals, and four assists. Weimar and Riley Childs posted 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
