Keefe's Brace Leads Women's Soccer Past Army, 3-0, to Advance to PL Championship

BOSTON – Guided by Shannon Keefe's brace, the Boston University women's soccer team advanced to the Patriot League Tournament championship game with a 3-0 shutout against Army West Point Friday night at Nickerson Field.

With the win, BU will play for its fourth Patriot League title on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.

How It Happened
  • McKenna Doyle almost put away an early score, luring Army's keeper to just outside the 18-yard box before striking a shot towards the frame.
  • Right before the ball crossed the goal line, a Black Knight defender made a sliding stop to keep the game scoreless.
  • BU's defense passed an early test of its own, as Morgan Messner elevated to snag a header of a Black Knight corner kick in the 12th minute.
  • With time winding down in the half, Dorrie Varley-Barrett won a 50-50 ball and guided it towards Taylor Kofton in the 40th minute.
  • The Patriot League Rookie of the Year sent a beautiful through ball to Keefe, who raced past the back line before driving a shot from the top of the box that landed inside the left post.
  • McKenna Kennedy converted on a penalty kick in the 68th minute to further the lead to 2-0.
  • The Keefe-Kofton connection worked again in the 72nd minute when Kofton collected a loose ball from over 30 yards out and drove all the way to the 12-yard line
  • From there, the sophomore placed a one-timer into the back of the net to seal to put the game out of reach.
