PL CHAMPS! Terriers Outmatch Lehigh, 1-0, for Fourth PL Title

BOSTON – For the fourth time in six seasons, the Boston University women's soccer team claimed the Patriot League championship, topping Lehigh 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Anna Heilferty, the Patriot League Tournament MVP, delivered the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute, driving a header off a cross by Kelly Harris.

With the win, head coach Nancy Feldman picked up her 400th career victory as a collegiate head coach.

BU will discover its postseason fate tomorrow, as the NCAA selection show will take place at 4:30 p.m.

How It Happened
  • BU came out strong on the attack, firing off seven shots over the first 15 minutes.
  • Friday's hero, Shannon Keefe, had two straight chances in the 37th and 39th minute, but both one-timers just missed landing on frame.
  • The Terriers held a 12-4 shot advantage at the half, including a 3-1 clip in shots on goal, though the score held at 0-0 at the half.
  • McKenna Doyle missed by inches to start the second half off, driving a shot off the top of the crossbar in the 55th minute.
  • BU finally broke through Lehigh's backline in the 73rd minute, as Heilferty delivered her team-leading sixth score of the season.
  • Kennedy worked the ball across the midfield before dishing it off to Chloee Sagmoe, who fed Harris streaking down the right wing.
  • Harris lined a cross towards the top of the 18-yrad box, where a backpedaling Heilferty flicked a header, and the ball rolled inside the right post.
  • Lehigh pressed furiously at the end, but BU's defense remained stellar, clearing three straight corner kicks in the final 46 seconds to preserve the shutout.
Game Notes
  • BU won its fourth Patriot League title in six seasons and its 13th conference championship overall.
  • Additionally, the win marked the 10th time the Terriers have won a conference title on their home field.
  • Chelsea Churchill, Shannon Keefe, and McKenna Kennedy joined Heilferty on the All-Patriot League Tournament Team.
  • With the win, BU's unbeaten in home conference games improved to 50 straight, which is the longest active streak in the NCAA.
  • Additionally, all nine of BU's wins against conference opponents have been in the form of a shutout.
  • The Terriers moved to 9-2 all-time in Patriot League Tournament games.
