AMHERST, Mass. -
Despite outscoring the Minutewomen in three quarters, the Boston University women's basketball team suffered a 73-56 loss at Massachusetts on Saturday night in Mullins Center.
The third quarter ultimately decided the game as UMass outscored the Terriers, 30-7, during the period. It was the only quarter that BU did not score more points than the Minutewomen.
Troi Melton led BU with 15 points, 12 of which were scored in the fourth quarter. Meghan Green was dominant in the first half, scoring 11 of her 13 points in the first two periods.
UMass was led by Cierra Dillard, who tallied 20 points, bolstered by 10-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe. In total, four Minutewomen scored in double-figures.
BU started off strong thanks to Corrine Williams, who's five points and three offensive boards was a spark to the Terrier offense. She ultimately finished with nine points and five rebounds.
UMass pressured throughout the second quarter and regained its lead, but BU kept pace and took its advantage back to go into halftime with a 28-23 lead, its second lead at the midway point so far this season.
The third quarter ultimately dictated the game, however, as UMass hit 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions early in the period to regain the lead, which the Minutewomen would ultimately keep for the remainder of the game.
BU is back in action after a week off for the holidays on Dec. 28 when Vermont visits Case Gym for the first game in a double header with the men's team. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
