The Boston University women's rowing team defeated URI on Saturday in the first of two 4800-meter races on the Charles River. 

The Terriers's varsity eight boat, coxed by junior Eline Vermeulen and stroked by junior Kelly Jackson, finished with the fastest time of 16:48 in the first head race followed by BU's second varsity eight boat with a time of 17:02. URI's first varsity eight boat finished third with a time of 17:04.

In their second race, URI's varsity eight boat finished with the best time of 17:02 in a razor close finish over BU's varsity eight boat.

The Terriers next race on Oct. 12 against Boston College in their last race before the Head of the Charles Regatta which will take place Oct. 19-20 with the DeWolfe Boathouse again serving as the starting line.
