SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In a thrilling third set singles tiebreaker, the Boston University women's tennis team claimed its 29th conference title in program history with a 4-2 win over top-seeded Army West Point in the Patriot League Championship on Sunday.
BU got on the board first, thanks to securing the doubles point. Sophomore

Gabriella Mikaul finished first with a 6-3 win at line one. Senior
Nina Gulbransen and junior
Emily Zhao clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot, giving BU a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Terriers earned the first singles point when freshman
Madison Liu posted a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win at line three. Army won next at the top of the lineup to close in on BU's lead, 2-1. The Black Knights then tied the match 2-2 with a win at line four in three sets.
Mikaul was next to win for BU, doing so in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 at line two. The next point was contested at line five, with Zhao battling through three sets. She won the first set 6-1, but her Army foe sent the match to a third set. Zhao battled to 6-6 in the set which sent it into a tiebreak. There, she gained control early and put herself in the lead to ultimately win the tiebreak 7-6 (4) to clinch BU's seventh Patriot League title in program history.
Mikaul received the John "Pat" Rooney Award for Tournament MVP.
The Terriers receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will learn where in the bracket they end up on Monday at 5 p.m.
