BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boston University women's tennis team (5-7) wrapped its spring break trip with a 6-1 loss to No. 29 FAU on Thursday.
BU secured the doubles point thanks to wins at lines two and three, respectively. Sophomore Blanka DeMicheli and freshman Madison Liu were the first to with a 7-6 (0) win at the No. 2 spot. Senior Nina Gulbransen and junior Emily Zhao clinched the win, doing so in a 7-6 (5) decision to give BU a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
FAU found its footing and clinched the match with straight sets wins at lines three, four, five, two and six, respectively. Liu played a closely contested match at line two but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-4. Sophomore Uma Bakaityte battled at the top of the lineup and sent both sets to a tiebreak, but FAU came away with the 7-6 (2), 7-6 (1) win.
The Terriers will be back in action on Sunday, March 23 to resume Patriot League play against Lehigh at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy in Randall's Island, N.Y. at 11:45 a.m.
