Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls Late to Santa Clara, 2-1

BOSTON – Continuing a three-game homestand, the Boston University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Santa Clara Sunday evening at Nickerson Field.

Graduate student Aidan Bone netted the game's first goal in the 21st minute but it wasn't enough for the Terriers (0-1-4), as the Broncos (2-2-0) headed in the equalizer at 69:47 and then the go-ahead score at 77:07 to snap BU's 16-game home unbeaten streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior Ben Alexander earned his first save in the first minute, stopping Pierce Dyal's 25-yard blast directed toward the left post.
  • Sophomore Andrea Di Blasio nearly put BU on the scoreboard in the eighth minute with a header off sophomore Jason Zacarias' long service pass into the box, but Jack Stoecker managed to get a hand on the ball for the save.
  • After clearing a pair of corner kicks, the Terriers grabbed the lead at 20:35 with Zacarias sending a through ball into the box that senior Daniel Kim managed to get a touch on while sliding on the ground to Bone for the successful finish.
  • The Terriers cleared another two Bronco corner kicks to enter the locker room ahead, 1-0.
  • BU attempted the first three shots of the second half, but Stoecker stopped senior Andrew Rent's attempt with the other two going wide during the first 10 minutes of action.
  • The teams went back and forth with Santa Clara tying the game off a header from Florian Deletioglu.
  • Alexander made another save a minute later but wasn't able to stop Tyler Tipton's header off Yoni Aidlberg's cross at 77:07.
  • The Terriers applied pressure on the Broncos' backline over the final 12 minutes, but Stoecker managed to save shots from junior Damola Salami (79:52) and Bone (88:45) to preserve the win.
GAME NOTES
  • Bone earned his third career goal after finding the back of the net in 2023 and 2021.
  • Zacarias earned his fourth career assist, while Kim recorded his first assist since tallying three in 2022.
  • Alexander finished with three saves in his third straight start, and Stoecker had four.
  • Santa Clara moved to 2-0-0 all-time against BU after collecting a 3-0 victory in 2007.
  • BU went 11-0-5 at home before suffering its first loss since a 1-0 loss to Harvard on Oct. 4, 2022. The Terriers went a total of 17 games without allowing multiple goals in a contest following a 2-2 tie to Army on Sept. 28, 2002.
