BOSTON – Hitting the road for the first time this season, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit local rival Northeastern Tuesday night with action slated for a 6 p.m. start.
The Terriers are coming off Thursday's 0-0 draw at home against then-No. 9 New Hampshire, while the Huskies dropped a 3-1 decision at Rutgers.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU started a season with a scoreless draw for the first time since 1984 when the Terriers and Colgate faced off in Boston.
- BU went 4-4-1 on the road last season with ties at Boston College (2-2) and Harvard (1-1) alongside a 1-0 victory at Saint Joseph's. The other two road wins came against Patriot League opponents, and the last meeting was a 3-1 loss at Syracuse in the NCAA tournament opener.
- Making his ninth career start, graduate student Andrew Wike posted five saves at net against UNH for his first career shutout.
- Junior Quin DeLaMater and senior Kevin Torres joined Wike in playing all 90 minutes.
- Senior Andrew Rent, a preseason All-Patriot League honoree, returned a team-high 10 points (3g,4a), while junior Alex Bonnington brought back four goals.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
- The Huskies are led by new head coach, Jeremy Bonomo, who was a two-time Horizon League Coach of the Year during his nine years at Green Bay.
- The Huskies returned five of their top seven goal scorers with Fraser Brown delivering a team-high five goals.
- Tallying two goals last fall, Sebastian Restrepo found the back of the net once at Rutgers.
- Rutgers edged NU in shot attempts, 14-13, despite the Huskies owning a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
- NU went 0-4-4 at home last season with a notable 4-4 tie against Rutgers and 2-1 loss to then-No. 22 Hofstra.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers lead the all-time series, 22-10-3, after the teams battled to a 1-1 draw last season at Nickerson Field.
- The Terriers gave up an own goal in the final minute of the first half and netted the equalizer in the 82nd minute.
- BU is 0-2-1 over the last three meetings at Parsons Field, last dropping a 2-1 decision in 2022 following a 1-0 (2OT) defeat in 2019 and 1-1 draw in 2017.
- BU last won on the road in 2014, 2-1.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Terriers will remain on the road and visit UMass Lowell on Sunday (Sept. 1) at 6 p.m.
- BU won the last meeting at home, 2-1, after dropping a 2-1 double-overtime decision at UML back in 2019.
