BOSTON – Looking to remain unbeaten at home, the Boston University men's soccer team will host in-state foe UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon with a 4 p.m. start time. Gates will open one hour earlier for the 16th annual Terrier Tailgate, which will include free food, music and giveaways.
The Terriers are coming off a 2-1 victory at Saint Joseph's, while the River Hawks most recently posted a 2-1 victory at Northeastern. UML marks the third America East opponent for BU following a 2-1 home win over UAlbany and 2-1 loss at then-No. 23 New Hampshire.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- Three Terriers have found the back of the net so far this season with reigning Patriot League Offensive Player and Midfielder of the Week Quinn Matulis converting on free kicks against the Great Danes and Wildcats.
- Senior Aidan Bone netted the game winner in the win over UAlbany during the 89th minute by swiping a back pass and quickly finding the back of the net.
- Junior Daniel Kim scored the lone goal this past Thursday in Philadelphia with senior Andrew Rent and graduate student Colin Innes earning the program's first two assists of the season.
- Reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and senior Francesco Montali recorded one save against the Hawks for his 12th career shutout. He currently owns a .750 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average.
- Both Montali and senior Griffin Roach are the only two Terriers to play all 270 minutes so far this year.
- Opponents are averaging four more shots per game so far with a 14-11 advantage in corners.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
- The River Hawks were selected to finish eighth in the America East preseason poll after posting a 2-9-5 record last year with a 0-4-3 conference mark.
- UML went 0-6-2 on the road in 2022 and is currently 1-0-1 this year following a 1-1 draw at Patriot League member Lafayette.
- Daniele Mastroianni netted both goals against the Huskies after Oliver Holmstrom found the back of the net against the Leopards.
- Both Jacob Heihsel and Adam Henry have started one game apiece at goal, collecting six saves apiece for identical .857 save percentage and 1.00 GAA. Heihsel started 12 contests last year for a .723 save percentage and 2.17 GAA.
- Opponents are ahead in both shot attempts (33-13) and corner kicks (16-7).
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers are 4-4-0 all-time in the series that dates back to 1978.
- The teams did not meet from 1982-2014 with BU posting a 1-0 home victory a year later.
- UML has won the last three contests, including most recently a 2-1 double OT home victory in 2019.
