ALLSTON, Mass. – The Boston University women's tennis team opened its fall season at the Harvard Fall Classic this weekend. The Terriers notched 17 wins in singles and doubles combined and were highlighted by junior Michelle Kleynerman who defeated the No. 109 singles player in the nation.
 
Kleynerman, who went 3-0 overall in singles, notably took down No. 109 Charlotte Owensby of Harvard in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. This marked the first time she has defeated a ranked opponent in her collegiate career. She also topped opponents from Boston College and Cincinnati in straight sets.
 
Picking up two singles wins each on the weekend were senior Victoria Carlsten, junior Nina Gulbransen and freshmen Uma Bakaityte and Blanka DeMicheli. Gulbransen went 2-0 while Carlsten, Bakaityte and DeMicheli all went 2-1.
 
Senior Kaitlin Tan and sophomore Rhea Rai also made their way into the win column in singles. Both Terriers defeated opponents from Cincinnati with Rai winning in straight sets and Tan earning the victory in a super tiebreak.
 
In doubles, the Terriers recorded three wins against host Harvard. Carlsten and DeMicheli as well as Tan and sophomore Emily Zhao won their matches 7-5 while Kleynerman and Bakaityte won 6-1. Gulbransen and Bakaityte also teamed to defeat their BC opponents 6-4.
