BOSTON – Seeking its second sweep in Patriot League play, the Boston University men's basketball team will visit Lafayette on Saturday with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
The Terriers are coming off back-to-back victories over Loyola Maryland (68-67) and American (60-54), while the Leopards are trying to carry momentum from Monday's 72-58 win at Holy Cross that snapped a three-game losing streak.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 5-8 in true road games this season compared to the 7-4 home record. The Terriers' win at Loyola last Saturday snapped a four-game road losing streak that occurred after earlier wins over Marist, Merrimack and New Hampshire.
- Just three points away from becoming the eighth Terrier to reach the 1,600-point milestone and 10 rebounds away from 800 total, Whyte is averaging a team-high 14.4 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
- Senior Ethan Brittain-Watts (9.0 ppg) and graduate student Jonas Harper (10.0 ppg) have joined Whyte in hitting over 30 3-pointers this season. Brittain-Watts also leads BU at 48 assists despite missing three games due to injury, while Harper has a team-high 36 steals.
- Senior Nevin Zink is second on the team in rebounds at 4.7 rpg following a season-high nine boards at Bucknell.
- BU has 11 Terriers who have scored in double figures this season with nine accomplishing the feat multiple times together.
- Head coach Joe Jones is sitting at 199 wins at BU, one shy of becoming the second to reach the 200-victory milestone.
- The Terriers are averaging 66.7 ppg and 41.1 FG% while holding opponents to 67.5 ppg and 43.6 FG%. They're also averaging 7.4 3FGs and 32.5 FG% with opponents averaging 7.3 3FGs and 34.4 3FG%.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
- Led by first-year head coach and former Colgate assistant Mike Jordan, the Leopards are 3-6 at home with wins over Loyola Maryland (62-46), Holy Cross (62-48) and Bucknell (74-67 OT).
- They've dropped the last two to Lehigh (66-64) and Navy (53-34).
- Leo O'Boyle (11.6 ppg) and CJ Fulton (10.1 ppg) are both scoring in double figures with Kyle Jenkins (9.6 ppg) owning a team-high 5.7 rpg.
- The Leopards are averaging 61.1 ppg and 40.6 FG% while holding opponents to 69.7 ppg and 43.4 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 19-8, having won seven of the last eight games.
- With both Whyte and Zink out due to injury, Tynen earned his first-ever double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittain-Watts had a career-tying 19 points.
- Junior Miles Brewster and junior Daman Tate combined for 23 points off the bench as well.
- The Leopards are 3-9 at home, last pulling out a 61-59 win in 2020. In their last visit a year ago, the Terriers posted an 81-62 victory.
