PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Opening a three-match road trip against New England rivals, the Boston University women's tennis team posted a 5-2 victory at Brown.
The Terriers (5-1) won two of the three doubles matches for the early 1-0 advantage and then captured four singles points, including a pair in straight sets, to claim their first win against the Bears (3-7) since 2013.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 2019 Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year Emily Kim and Shelly Yaloz posted a 6-2 win in the top slot, but Brown kept the point up for grabs with a 6-3 victory at line 2.
- Junior Lily Burchell and freshman Sofia Kostirko clinched the doubles point by holding off their opponents in a 6-4 victory at line 3.
- Burchell dropped the fewest games in singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 slot, while junior Alex Angyalosy posted a 7-5, 6-4 win at line 5.
- Ranked No. 116 nationally, freshman Erica Di Battista dropped the first set but bounced back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory in the top match.
- Freshman Steph Nguyen also overcame a first-set loss by defeating her opponent, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 at line 6.
- Brown avenged the doubles loss to Kim (#3) and Yaloz (#2) by defeating both in three-set contests to avoid the sweep.

- The Terriers will visit the Crimson on Sunday with the ESPN3 webcast set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
- BU fell to the Crimson, 5-2, last season after claiming a 4-3 victory in 2018.
