Daily Recaps

Aug. 18-19
  • Free day to relax, explore and shop.
  • Entire team agreed to spend time at the beach for a few hours with many deciding to get on a jet ski.
  • No official gathering for dinner so guys went out on their own.
  • Had breakfast at 6:45 a.m. on the 19th and took the bus over to the Barcelona airport.
  • Flew to Madrid, waited a little more than an hour and then eventually landed in Boston around 2:30 p.m. ET.
Aug. 17
  • Had no scheduled tours today, so the guys were able to explore, shop and relax on their own until the pregame meal.
  • Finished 4-0 on the week with a 94-63 victory against the El Maresme All-Stars in Mataro.
  • Walter Whyte (20 pts.) and Jack Hemphill (15 pts.) combined for 35 points, while Max Mahoney (11 pts.) and Jonas Harper (10 pts.) reached double figures.
  • Extended a 20-15 first quarter lead to 47-39 at the half.
  • Pulled away early en route to a second consecutive 30+ point win.
Aug. 16
  • Went on a 50+ minute tour in the morning of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, which was truly breathtaking despite construction starting in 1882 and the completion date expected to be around 2026.
  • Afterwards, went on a bus ride around the 1992 Olympic sites and then had a photo taken on top of a mountain overlooking the city of Barcelona in front of the National Art Museum of Catalonia.
  • After a couple of hours of downtime, had pregame meal inside the hotel and then drove to a gym to face off against the Mataro All-Stars.
  • Jumped out to a 7-0 lead but trailed 24-23 at the end of the first quarter after the All-Stars hit a 3/4-court buzzer beater for the 24-23 advantage.
  • Retook the lead and led 46-40 at the half before starting the second half strong and pulling away, 96-64.
  • Five finished in double figures with Alex Vilarino and Javante McCoy both contributing 13 points.
  • Walter Whyte, Jack Hemphill and Sukhmail Mathon all tallied 12 points apiece.
  • Combined for seven 3-pointers but didn't really need it due to a strong effort to score in the paint and rebound.
Aug. 15
  • Had an early morning exercise session and an 11 a.m. departure time from Valencia to Barcelona.
  • Rode along the coast and posted many images on the main Instagram account.
  • Learned a lay of the land around the Hotel Le Meridien and embarked on a shortened tour, starting on Barcelona's most famous street, La Ramblas Street.
  • Had the afternoon and evening off to experience the city together.
Aug. 14
  • After eating an impressive breakfast buffet, went on a bus and walking tour of Valencia with a guide joining the team.
  • First stopped at the City of Arts & Science, which is an impressive futuristic looking "city within a city" that includes space for the opera, aquarium, scientific research etc...
  • Walked through the Mercado Central, one of the largest markets in Europe.
  • Visited the Cathedral de Valencia, which houses what is considered to be the Holy Grail.
  • Fortunate to see the Water Tribunal of Valencia outside the Cathedral as the group is the oldest law court in Europe and dates 1,000 years.

  • After roaming around a little more and shopping, team returned to the hotel to relax and have the pregame meal.
  • In the second game of the tour, BU jumped out to 28-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and rolled to 99-59 victory.
  • Javante McCoy tallied 23 points with Jack Hemphill (15 pts.), Walter Whyte (12 pts.) and Andrew Petcash (11 pts.) also reaching double figures.
  • Split up to have dinner at one of the many restaurants alongside the beach close to the hotel.
Aug. 13
  • Rode the bus to Valencia from Madrid and stopped in-between off the highway for lunch at Area 157.
  • There were no set plans today, so when the team arrived at Hotel Balneario Las Arenas, the guys spent the afternoon at the beach and pool areas.
  • Team dinner was held at Destino 56, and the food options ranged from paleta to pizza to sandwiches.
Aug. 12
  • Rode the bus to Toledo and then took a walking tour of the city that has more than 2,000 years of history.
  • Saw a brief demonstration of sword making at a shop that also creates jewelry.
  • Went shopping at the store a floor above the demonstration.
  • Took escalators up the side of the central part of Toledo before walking the streets.
  • Visited the 13th-century Cathedral de Toledo during the tour.
  • Had time to eat lunch and shop a little more in the central square before returning to the hotel.
  • The roster was separated in groups to attend a strength & conditioning session with assistant coach Ben Morse in the afternoon.
  • Players had the opportunity to explore Madrid and have dinner out one final time before the following day's 9 a.m. departure to Valencia. 
Aug. 11
  • Toured the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which is home of the world famous soccer club, Real Madrid.
  • Highlights included walking through the locker room, taking green screen photos, sitting on the team's bench and posing for photos next to the field.
  • Several of the players purchased souvenir items as well in the team shop.
  • In the afternoon before the pregame meal, some went to the rooftop pool while others roamed around the area.
  • Adam Mikula and assistant coach Mike Quinn walked toward the Prado Museum to see the work of artists such as Rembrandt while also coming across  a parade that turned out to be a celebration of the Bolivian community in Madrid in honor of the Virgin of Urkupiña.
  • After the pregame meal at the hotel, the team competed in its first game against the Madrid All-Stars.
  • BU jumped out to an early 8-1 lead but trailed 37-31 at the half.
  • Max Mahoney led the Terriers with 22 points and was joined by Jonas Harper (14 pts.), Javante McCoy (13 pts.) and Alex Vilarino (11 pts.) in double figures.
  • Harper and McCoy combined for six of the Terriers' seven second-half 3-pointers to key the rally.
  • After dinner at the hotel, the team went out to explore more of Madrid to wrap up the second day in Spain.
Aug. 9-10
  • Left Boston on Friday (Aug. 9) around 6 p.m. and landed in Madrid on Saturday (April 10) around 6 a.m. following six-hour flight.
  • After going through security, went straight to the Hotel Emperador for breakfast.
  • Following breakfast, some explored while others tried to get extra rest.
  • Went on both a bus and walking tour of Madrid starting at 10 a.m. with highlights including the Plaza Mayor, the Gran Via and the Plaza de Espana.
  • After walking past the Royal Palace, had lunch at Mercado San Miguel, which featured many food vendors.
  • Checked into the hotel and had the afternoon free to further explore or catch up on sleep.
  • Met for buffet-style dinner at Topolino.
