WEST POINT, N.Y. - The four-time defending Patriot League champion and No. 3 seed Boston University women's tennis team opened the conference tournament with a 4-0 sweep over No. 6 Loyola Maryland on Friday afternoon at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
With their 13th straight victory in the tournament, the Terriers improve to 9-12, while the Greyhounds see their season end at 14-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches by a combined score of 12-3 for the first point and then claimed three singles points at lines 2-4 in straight sets to advance to the semifinals.
- Junior Sophia Kryloff and sophomore Clara Falxa posted a 6-1 win at line 3, while freshmen Katya Martens and Dani Blaser teamed together for a 6-2 win in the No. 2 slot.
- Both Martens (#3) and freshman Emily Kim (#2) cruised to 6-2, 6-2 victories in their respective singles match to help extend the lead to 3-0.
- Kryloff sealed the team victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Loyola Maryland.
- Senior Iryna Kostirko (#1), Blaser (#5) and sophomore Lily O'Fagan (#6) all won their first set before their contests were halted.
NEXT UP: PATRIOT LEAGUE SEMIFINALS
- The Terriers will face No. 2 Army on Saturday at 2 p.m. after the Black Knights claimed a 4-0 win over No. 7 Lafayette.
- The Black Knights edged BU, 4-3, at home one week ago to grab the No. 2 seed.
- Last season, Army also beat the Terriers, 4-3, during the regular season, but BU was able to avenge the loss with a 4-1 win in the PL title match.
- No. 1 Navy and No. 4 Lehigh are set to meet in the other semifinal contest at 10 a.m.
