BOSTON – Looking to make a move up the Patriot League standings, the Boston University men's soccer team will open a two-game homestand against Army West Point on Wednesday with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.
The Terriers are currently in seventh place with seven points following Saturday's 2-1 loss at Navy, while the Black Knights own the sixth slot at nine points after posting a 3-1 win over current No. 5 Bucknell (10 pts.), who will visit Nickerson Field Saturday. Only the top six teams qualify for the PL tournament.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- This past weekend in Annapolis, senior Adam Wright became the seventh Terrier to score a goal this season after heading in sophomore Toti Knutsson's team-leading fourth assist of the year.
- Senior keeper Mike Bernardi has started 10 games, including all six PL contests, and owns a 1.43 goals against average with a 0.754 save percentage ... He helped the Terriers shut out both Holy Cross and Lafayette in conference play.
- With the team hampered by injuries, senior David Riccio is the only Terrier to start all 15 games this season and is just one of four to appear in all 15 contests alongside sophomore Max Aunger, sophomore Peter Kargbo and senior T.J. Butzke.
- Junior Satchel Cortet leads BU with five points (2g,1a) in conference play despite missing two games to injury.
- BU owns home wins this season against defending Atlantic 10 champion UMass and American.
- Conference opponents have a slight 8-6 advantage in goals scored through six contests while averaging 2.9 extra shots per game.
SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT
- After dropping a pair of 3-0 decisions to both Colgate and Lehigh to open PL play, the Black Knights have gone 3-1 with wins over Lafayette (1-0), Bucknell (3-1) and Navy (4-1) along with a 2-0 loss to Loyola Maryland.
- Army is 3-3-0 on the road this season with wins over San Diego State (2-1), Siena (3-0) and Mount Saint Mary;s (2-0).
- Keenan O'Shea has been impressive for Army this season with a team-high 22 points off nine goals and four assists, well ahead of Eric Whiteman's seven points (3g,1a) … Zac McGraw is second on the team with three helpers.
- Justin Stoll has started all 14 games and owns a 1.40 GAA with a 0.677 save percentage.
- Opponents are averaging 1.1 more shots per game and have a 75-56 advantage in corner kicks.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers own a 7-2-1 advantage in a series that dates back to 1978 ... They are 4-1-1 since joining the Patriot League.
- Last season at West Point, sophomore Austin D'Anna scored two goals to help lead the Terriers to a 3-1 win with Cortet tallying the go-ahead goal in the 22nd minute … Army posted a 9-8 advantage in shots with both teams recording two saves apiece.
- Two years ago at Nickerson Field, BU led Army in shots, 20-13, and used a 49th-minute goal to defeat the Black Knights, 1-0, at home ... Stoll had three saves against the Terriers' four stops.
