Women's Soccer Hosts Lafayette Tuesday in Patriot League Quarterfinal Matchup

BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team will start its quest for a fourth Patriot League tournament championship as it welcomes Lafayette on Tuesday, Oct. 31 for a quarterfinal matchup at Nickerson Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen on the Patriot League Network.

Patriot League Picture

  • BU clinched the No. 3 seed and the right to host a quarterfinal matchup after Saturday's 3-1 victory over Colgate.
  • Lafayette clinched the final spot in the tournament after a 1-0 decision over Lafayette on Saturday to earn the No. 6 seed.

All-Patriot League
  • Rachel Bloznalis, Julianna Chen, Anna Heilferty, Dorrie Varley-Barrett and Christina Wakefield all claimed spots on the All-Patriot League team on Monday.
  • Bloznalis and Heilferty headlined the group with major awards, as Bloznalis repeated as the Defensive Player of the Year and Heilferty grabbed Rookie of the Year honors.
  • Wakefield joined Bloznalis on the First Team, while Chen and Varley-Barrett earned Second Team nods.

Honor Roll
  • Additionally, Bloznalis and Jacki Carty earned weekly honors from the Patriot League, as Bloznalis was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Carty picked up her first Midfield of the Week honor.

Tournament History
  • BU has won the Patriot League tournament three times since joining the league in 2013.
  • The Terriers and Bucknell have met in the championship game in each of the last two seasons.
  • This will mark the first time BU has played in a quarterfinal game and will also be the first postseason meeting between the Terriers and Leopards.
Last Time Out
  • Jacki Carty netted a pair of goals within a two-minute span, striking the in the 27th and 29th minute to guide BU to a 3-1 victory on Senior Day against Colgate.
  • Chelsea Churchill put an exclamation point on the afternoon with a bending strike from 20 yards out in the 85th minute.

  • The backline ranks third in the Patriot League in goals allowed (17) and goals allowed per game (0.89).

Scouting Lafayette
  • Making its second straight Patriot League tournament appearance, Lafayette enters Tuesday's contest with a 5-8-2 mark, including a 3-5-1 record in conference games.
  • The Leopards reached the semifinals of last season's tournament before falling, 2-0, to Bucknell.
  • Freshamn Krista Kissell and junior Gabrielle Martone were named to the All-Patriot League Third Team on Monday. Kissell boasts a team-best four goals, while Martone is a steady presence in the midfield and has tallied three assists.
The Series
  • BU has come out on top in all five of its games against the Leopards and owns an 18-1 goal advantage.
  • Jesse Shreck, Anna Heilferty and Shannon Keefe each found the back of the net in the regular season matchup in Easton.

  • Navy will host the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 3. 
  • The first semifinal game will be between Navy and the lowest remaining seed and is set to kickoff at 5:05 p.m.
