September 2, 2016

BOSTON – Senior Taylor Blood scored just under six minutes into overtime to lead the 17th-ranked Boston University field hockey team to a thrilling 2-1 victory in its home opener against crosstown rival Northeastern on Friday evening. The Terriers move to a perfect 3-0 on the season.

THE RUNDOWN

Final Score: #17 Boston University 2, Northeastern 1 (OT)
Records: BU (3-0), Northeastern (2-1)
Location: New Balance Field – Boston, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With Northeastern down a player due to a green card, Blood took a pass up the right side from fellow senior Hester van der Laan and dribbled into the circle before eluding a defender and putting a shot between the legs of Northeastern goalkeeper Becky Garner at 5:50 of overtime.
  • BU opened the scoring in the 20th minute when junior Allie Renzi found the boards on the left side off an assist from Blood. Blood controlled the ball across the top of the circle before sliding it over to Renzi, who tucked a shot inside the far post.
  • The Huskies got even before the break when Laura MacLachlan got ahead of the defense on the right side of the circle and sent the ball home following a nice pass from Rachel Campbell. The equalizer came at the 27:33 mark.
  • The Terriers had a chance to end the game in regulation, earning a corner in the final moments of the second half, but were unable to get a shot off.
