BALTIMORE - In one of the strongest performances of the season that featured six ties and two lead changes, the Boston University women's lacrosse team came close to an upset but could not complete the comeback against No. 19/20 Johns Hopkins on Friday evening, settling for a 13-12 loss on Homewood Field.

The Terriers (2-4, 1-0 PL) tied the game by scoring four straight goals in the final 15 minutes of the game but were unable to take the lead back from the Blue Jays (4-3), who scored one more goal with five minutes remaining and successfully contained the BU attack for the remainder of the game.

Mallory Collins led the Terriers with four goals, all scored during the first half. She was responsible for getting BU its only lead of the game, netting back-to-back goals midway through the opening period. Taylor Hardison had an exceptional day behind the net, tallying a career-high four assists on the day.

Jill Horka had another impressive day in the circle, corralling six draw controls. She also scored two goals on the day alongside Mickenzie Larivee and Remy Nolan who also added two to the Terrier total.

BU outshot the Blue Jays, 34-32 and edged them on draw controls, 14-13. Turnovers and ground balls were dead even as were fouls. The one area that proved troublesome for the Terriers was free positions as BU went 0-for-8 from the 8-meter line.

Neither team gave an inch throughout the first half as the game was either tied or within one goal for the first 30 minutes. Johns Hopkins started things off early to gain a 1-0 lead but BU had an answer for every Blue Jay goal.

The Terriers were finally able to put together a set of goals midway through the period as Collins fired two to the back of the net to give BU its first lead of the game, 5-4.

JHU made up for the deficit, however, and ultimately took an unthreatening one-goal lead by halftime, 7-6.

The Blue Jays took control coming out of halftime and quickly began to distance themselves from the Terriers. With 17 minutes to play, Johns Hopkins reached its largest lead of the day, four goals, and began to control the momentum.

BU was not finished yet, however, and put together a four-goal streak to tie the game at 12-12 with six minutes remaining.

Johns Hopkins scored the game-winner just one minute later and, despite opportunity on the offensive end, held the Terriers scoreless for the final five minutes to seal the victory.

BU is back in action on Saturday, March 19 when the Terriers return home from their five-game road trip to play Bucknell at 1 p.m. on Nickerson Field.
