STILLWATER, Okla. - Participating in its 15th NCAA tournament in 17 years, the reigning Patriot League champion Boston University women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 12 Oklahoma State in the first round on Saturday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Winner of two doubles matches and three singles contests, the Cowgirls (22-5) helped all 16 national seeds advance to the second round without dropping a single point.

Despite being shut out in front of an energized, hostile crowd, the Terriers (14-8) put up a great effort, winning a combined 26 games in singles action. The number of games won was the third most against a national seed in the first round this year and the most by BU at the NCAAs since 2009.

Sophomore and All-PL Second Team honoree Barbara Rodriguez led BU by claiming the first set at No. 4 against Karyn Guttormsen. Her match (6-4, 2-2) was halted early in the second when OSU earned the necessary four points. She was the first Terrier since Stefanie Nunic ('12) in 2009 and just one of four players this year in the first round to win a set against a national seed with VCU and Miami Ohio winning one set at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

OSU jumped out to an early 1-0 led by winning the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches by a combined score of 16-4. Named Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year back on Tuesday, Rodriguez and junior Johanna Hyoty battled Viktoriya Lushkova and Guttormsen in the No. 1 slot to a 5-5 stalemate when their match was called.

The PL Player of the Year Hyoty and the 17th-nationally ranked Lushkova also faced off at No. 1 singles. Hyoty dropped the first set but led in the second (6-2, 3-4) against the Big 12 Co-Player of the Year when their match was halted.

The Cowgirls lost a combined three games at No. 5 and 6 singles to collect two more points and added the final one at No. 3 when 99th-ranked Vladica defeated freshman and PL Tournament MVP Iryna Kostirko, 6-3, 6-1.

All-Big 12 honoree Katarina Adamovic led All-PL First Team member Lauren Davis, 6-1, 5-4, in the other unfinished match at No. 2 singles.

Led by PL Coach of the Year Lesley Sheehan, the Terriers (14-8) have finished a season with at least 14 wins for the 11th time in her 30 years at the helm and in double figures for the 26th time.

Winner of the last two PL titles, they will be returning everyone who participated in today's NCAA match for the 2015-16 season. BU will be losing though senior co-captains Sophie Wyman and Sami Lieb to graduation after they helped lead the program to a pair of conference titles and postseason appearances.
