WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Competing in its final regular season match before the upcoming Patriot League tournament, the defending conference champion Boston University women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 victory at last year's runner-up Army on Saturday morning.
The Terriers (11-7, 4-0 PL) claimed the win against the Black Knights (12-10, 2-2 PL) despite losing the doubles point by capturing five of the six singles points.
Army just edged BU in doubles action, winning at No. 2 (8-7) and No. 3 (8-6) by a slim margin after junior Johanna Hyoty and sophomore Barbara Rodriguez posted an 8-6 win at No. 1.
Rodriguez carried momentum from her doubles win to singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on the No. 4 slot. Junior Lauren Davis and freshman Iryna Kostirko also won in straight sets at No. 2 and 5, respectively.
Sophomore Iris Lin (#5) and junior Kim McCallum (#6) put the Terriers over the top by posting three-set victories in their respective singles matches.
BU will next look to defend its title on April 24-26 at the three-day Patriot League tournament hosted by Colgate.
