ALLSTON, Mass. - Seeking its first win of the season over a nationally-ranked opponent, the Boston University women's tennis team battled with No. 48 Harvard to the end in a hard-fought 4-3 loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson (7-5) won two of three doubles matches for the first point and claimed three singles points to avoid the upset to the Terriers (7-6).
Junior Johanna Hyoty and sophomore Barbara Rodriguez led off with a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, but Harvard responded with wins at No. 2 and 3 by a combined score of 12-5.
Junior Kim McCallum led BU with a straight-set singles win in the No. 6 slot against Sylvia Li, 6-3, 7-5. Junior Lauren Davis rallied from a set down at No. 2 for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Monica Lin. Freshman Iryna Kostirko triumphed over Ellen Jang-Milsten in the No. 3 slot for BU's other point.
Hyoty, Rodriguez and junior Madison Craft all tried to earn the fourth point but fell in straights set to Harvard.
BU will next visit Yale on Sunday (March 29) at 1 p.m.
