LOWELL, Mass. - After hitting a combined 11 3-pointers in the previous two games, the Boston University men's basketball team exploded with 13 en route to a dominating 80-60 victory at UMass Lowell on Thursday night.

The Terriers (4-5) improved to 3-0 this year against the America East, as senior John Papale drained five treys to become the 34th at BU to hit the 1,000-point milestone. The River Hawks (4-5) entered the contest with plenty of confidence following Sunday's 68-66 win at Boston College but were undone by a 33.3 percent shooting performance against BU's swarming defense.

Papale reached the mark at 1:44 in the first half on his 223rd career 3-pointer and finished the game with 17 points. Sophomore Cheddi Mosely tallied a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds. Junior Eric Fanning nearly had a double-double as well with 10 points and seven boards, while sophomore Eric Johnson became the 10th Terrier to reach double figures this season with a career-high 11 points. BU shot an impressive 17-of-28 (.607) to grab a 46-23 halftime lead and eventually finished 27-of-56 (.482).

UML went 1-of-16 from behind the arc in the first half and could never get into any rhythm against the Terriers, as D.J. Mlachnik recorded a team-high 13 points. Looking for a repeat of his 21-point performance in last season's 69-59 win at BU, Jahad Thomas was limited to just eight points with eight rebounds. The River Hawks concluded the game 23-of-69 (.333).

After never holding a single lead in the last two games, Papale opened came out with his first 3-pointer to ignite a 10-2 spurt. UML cut the deficit to two (12-10) at 11:32, but BU responded with a 23-2 run over the following six minutes to pull away.

Down 46-23 at the half, the River Hawks briefly puled within 17 at 14:22 but a Johnson layup and Papale 3-pointer squashed any attempt of a rally.

Currently without the services of regular starters Cedric Hankerson and Justin Alston due to injury, BU used its fifth different lineup in six contests. Junior Dylan Haines was one of the key Terriers to step up, as he made his first career start and played a career-high 21 minutes while finishing with a personal-best five blocks, five rebounds and two assists.

BU will continue the three-game road trip on Sunday (Dec. 13) at Quinnipiac with action slated for 2 p.m.
