Women's Lacrosse Drops 9-7 Decision at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. - Playing in its fourth consecutive road game, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team dropped a 9-7 decision to Dartmouth on Wednesday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. Despite outscoring Dartmouth in the second half, the Terriers drop to 0-4 on the season while the Big Green improve to 3-1 on the year.

Sophomore Remy Nolan led the Terriers with the first two-goal game of her career while juniors Kelsey Marafioti and Lindsay Weiner along with sophomore Sofia Robins also found the back of the net. Senior Becca Church and sophomore Jill Horka scored their first goals of the season while junior Jenna Boarman and freshman Taylor Hardison each added an assist.

Senior Nell Burdis led BU with three draw controls and added two ground balls while classmate Elizabeth Morse won a pair of draw controls.

Making her third straight start in goal, freshman Caroline Meegan made nine saves and corralled three ground balls.

Sarah Byrne led the Big Green with three goals while Courtney Weisse and Jaclyn Leto added two tallies each. Byrne also won a game-high seven draw controls. Kristen Giovanniello made two saves in goal for the Big Green.

Dartmouth took an early 2-0 lead before Church netted her first goal of the season with an assist from Boarman with 25:30 on the clock. Weiner evened the game at 2-2 with an unassisted tally a few minutes later. The Big Green took a 4-2 lead with a pair of free position goals before Nolan scored her first of the game about midway through the period.

Weisse game the two-goal lead back to Dartmouth but Robins cut the Terriers’ deficit to one with an unassisted tally with 11:24 remaining. The Big Green closed out the first half with three unanswered goals to take an 8-4 lead into the break.

Nolan netted her second goal of the game on a free position shot just over eight minutes into the second frame. Lindsey Allard then converted a free position attempt for Dartmouth about a minute later for the Big Green’s only goal of the second half.

Marafioti and Horka added goals for the Terriers but neither team was able to score in the final 18 minutes, as Dartmouth held on for the 9-7 lead.

The Big Green finished with a 20-9 advantage in shots and 11-7 edge in draw controls. Dartmouth collected 16 ground balls, compared to 10 for BU.

The Terriers will play their first-ever Patriot League game on Saturday (March 8) when BU travels to Washington, D.C., to face American. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
