ORLANDO, Fla. - Continuing the week-long spring break trip, the Boston University women's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over South Alabama on Thursday afternoon to extend its win streak to three games. Improving to 6-4, the Terriers won two of the three doubles matches for the first point and then claimed three singles points against the Jaguars (9-5).
All three doubles contests featured an 8-2 decision with BU winning two for what turned out to be a critical point. Senior Vivien Laszloffy teamed with sophomore Sami Lieb at No. 2, while freshmen Lauren Davis and Kim McCallum claimed the other win in the No. 3 slot.
Named America East Player of the Week back on Tuesday, Davis carried the momentum from doubles over to singles. She claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mariya Krachok in the top spot. Laszloffy also put on a dominating performance, sweeping past Mchaela Meszarosova, 6-0, 6-0.
Despite facing a 3-0 deficit, South Alabama battled back with wins at No. 3, 5 and 6, respectively. Lieb dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Emily Newton, and senior Jessi Linero fell to Mary Angela Martin, 6-3, 6-3. McCallum won her first set, but Paula Sanchez rallied for the 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Junior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis though helped the Terriers hold on for the win with a straight-sets victory at No. 4 singles. She edged Ramona Ghermani, 7-6, 6-4, in a hard-fought contest.
The Terriers will conclude their eight-match road trip on Saturday (March 16) at Central Florida with action set to begin at 12 p.m.
