EASTON, Pa. - History was made at Lafayette's Metzgar Field Cross Country Course on Saturday afternoon when Rosa Moriello's victory led the Boston University women's cross country team to its first-ever Patriot League Championship.

Women's cross country is the first BU program to claim a Patriot League title. It is the Terriers' 16th conference crown. They were selected to finish fourth in the preseason poll. Head coach Bruce Lehane was named Patriot League Coach of the Year and Moriello took home Runner of the Year honors.

Moriello finished the course with a time of 21:09.93, nearly 40 seconds faster than the second-place competitor. She was one of three Terriers in the top six, as senior Monica Adler took third (21:52.37) and sophomore Shelby Stableford secured sixth (22:26.05). Moriello has now won all three races in which she has entered this season, including the New England Championship.

BU finished the event with 47 points, 10 clear of second-place Lehigh (57). Five BU harriers finished in the top 25, with sophomore Michelle Sumner (22:40.32) and senior Nikki Long (23:02.67) placing 13th and 24th, respectively, to round out the top-25 Terriers.

The Terriers also received strong performances from junior Ashli Tagoai (23:25.08) and sophomore Rachel Lotterman (23:40.00). Tagoai was 38th and Lottermann was 46th as each earned a top-50 finish.

Other BU competitors were freshman Felicia Sciortino (23:56.14), seniors Ally Brillaud (24:14.82) and Janelle Jorgensen (24:16.91), freshman Sydney Lagueux (24:55.60) and sophomore Erin Pierce (25:00.97).

BU will look to continue its success when the Terriers travel to Van Cortlandt park in New York City for the NCAA Northeast Regional on Nov. 15.
