NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Senior Andrea Walkonen and junior Erin Lagasse finished first and second to lead the Boston University women's cross country team to a first-place finish in an eight-team field at the Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Stanley Quarter Park. Walkonen, running her first race of the season, won the race for the second year in a row, while Lagasse followed up her win in last week's race with a second-place finish.

Five top-ten finishes in the field of 82 delivered the win for the Terriers. BU finished with 25 points, well ahead of second-place New Hampshire (40) with Connecticut (81), Fairfield (122), Hartford (142), Siena (168), Bryant (212) and New Haven (221) rounding out the field.

Walkonen set a course record, navigating the 5k course in 16:49 with Lagasse crossing the finish line in 17:17, 38 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher. Freshman Katie Matthews followed in fifth place with an 18:16 time. Junior Sarah Mosser was seventh, crossing in 18:30, and freshman Molly James finished 10th with an 18:35 time.

The Terriers' other finishers were sophomore Courtney Gardner in 11th (18:39), senior Mollie Zapata in 13th (18:42), freshman Sarah Healy in 18th (19:12), freshman Madeline Steiner in 24th (19:25), freshman Anna Lukes in 26th (19:32) and freshman Amanda Solly in 33rd (19:41).

BU will be in action again on Saturday, October 11, racing at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston with the women's races beginning at noon.
