DURHAM, N.H. - Junior Richy Dorman scored his first career goal in the 88th minute to lead the Boston University men's soccer team to its fourth straight win and third on the road, a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon at Lewis Field.
The Terriers fell behind early but recorded the game's final two goals to improve to 7-5-2 overall and 4-1-0 in the America East, while the Wildcats fell to 6-4-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.
Joe Corsello put UNH on the board first at 27:06 in the first half when he tapped in the ball off a well-placed corner kick by Kyle Urso. The goal was the first against senior Hrafn Davidsson since Oct. 4, ending a three-game and 338 minute shutout streak for BU.
The Terriers quickly evened the score at 33:44 when junior Samuel Appiah fired a rebound shot into the top right corner of the net. The loose ball was a result of a Wildcat defender blocking Shaun Taylor's initial attempt at goal.
The scoreboard remained unchanged with overtime seeming certain until junior Tom Strackhouse fed a crossing pass inside the box to an unmarked Dorman, who was able to strike a shot past keeper Colin O'Donnell at 87:55 for the game-winner.
"This is a big win for us because it gives us nine points on the road, which is very difficult to do in any conference," said head coach Neil Roberts. "This is key because it puts us in first place alone with Hartford (7-4-2, 3-1-0 AE) off tonight. Going into the last three games with Hartford in the finale, we control our own destiny.
"We gave up a corner kick goal, which we don't want to do, but the kids stayed composed and never panicked," he added. "Getting the goal before the half was big because they couldn't go in at halftime and figure out how to bunker in."
Davidsson ended the game with six saves total for the win, while O'Donnell had five in the loss. Led by freshman Michael Bustamante's five attempts, BU edged UNH in shots, 15-12.
The Terriers have three conference games remaining and will next host Vermont on Wednesday (Oct. 22) at Nickerson Field with the start time set for 7 p.m.
"We came out today healthy and with no one hurt," said Roberts. "Vermont was picked to win the conference, so they are a very good team. We're looking forward to getting back to work on Monday and preparing for the Catamounts."
