After a pair of strong performances at the New England Championship on Saturday, Boston University's men's and women's cross country teams both entered the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings that were released on Monday.

In the Northeast Region, the women are ranked 11th and the men come in at 13th, both cracking the polls for the first time this season.

On the women's side, America East conference rival Stony Brook tops the regional rankings and is ranked 12th in the national poll. Providence, who the Terriers beat in Saturday's New England Championship, follows at second in the region and 21st in the nation and Syracuse is third in the Northeast and 30th in the nation. New Hampshire is the only other AE team in the regional rankings, sitting just behind the Terriers' in 12th place. In addition to the Friars, BU also finished ahead of New Hampshire, 13th-ranked Northeastern and 15th-ranked Quinnipiac on Saturday.

On the men's side, Iona is the top-ranked team in the region and seventh in the nation. Providence, who the BU men also topped on Saturday, is second in the Northeast and 22nd in the nation, while Syracuse is next in the region and 26th nationally. From the America East, New Hampshire is the only team ahead of BU at 10th in the region, while Stony Brook and Binghamton come in at 14th and 15th, respectively, just behind the Terriers.

The BU runners are idle until Saturday, Oct. 25, when both squads will head to New Britain, Conn., for the CCSU Mini Meet, where they will face a strong field slated to include Stony Brook, Providence and Brown. Senior Andrea Walkonen set the course record in the women's race and junior Eric Ashe won the men's race when BU ran at Stanley Quarter Park earlier this season for the Ted Owen Invitational.
