The Boston University men's cross country team finished sixth out of 47 teams at the New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park. Junior Eric Ashe finished 13th in a field of 316 runners to lead the Terriers, who tallied 264 points for their best finish in the meet since 2003.
Senior Tim Ritchie of Boston College was first to cross the finish line in 24:35 and UMass Lowell captured the team title with 79 points as a pair of River Hawks finished second and third. New Hampshire (89), Brown (97), Dartmouth (192) and Massachusetts (196) also finished ahead of BU, while the Terriers bested a group that included Providence (548, 20th place), ranked 22nd nationally in Division I, and regionally-ranked Quinnipiac (335, 11th place).
Ashe completed the course in 25:03 to claim his 13th-place finish. The Terriers' next finisher was freshman Elliot Lehane, who ran a 25:33, good for a 44th-place finish in his first collegiate race. Senior David Proctor was 52nd with a 25:39, junior David Polgar finished 61st in 25:49 and sophomore Ken Haltom wrapped up the scoring with a 26:10 for 94th place.
BU's other finishers in the varsity race were freshman Peter Gilmore (130th, 26:33) and sophomore James Weider (245th, 28:09).
The Terriers are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 25, racing in the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Conn., at 11 a.m.
