Cross Leads Women's Soccer Past Delaware, 3-1
October 7, 2001 | Women's Soccer

Senior Megan Cross (Pembroke) scored her first goal of the season and added an assist to lead the Terrier women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over host University of Delaware in America East women's soccer action on Sunday (October 7th).
The win concluded a big weekend sweep for the Terriers, who posted a 1-0 win at Towson on Friday (October 5th).
The victory over the Blue Hens improved B.U.'s overall record to 6-4-1. More importantly, the Terriers remained undefeated in America East play as they are now 5-0-1. What's more, they are unbeaten in their last 20 regular-season conference games, as they are 18-0-1 against conference rivals dating back to October 15, 1999.
A back, Cross is noted more for her outstanding defensive play, as she was a First Team All-Conference and an NSCAA All-Northeast Regional Team selection last year. However, against Delaware, she turned on her offensive skills with the goal and an assist.
She opened the Terriers' scoring at 10:58 when she converted on a penalty kick. A Terrier player was taken down in the box, resulting in the kick. Cross went low and to the right of Delaware keeper Rachel Bersin. Bersin managed to get a piece of the ball, but it was not enough to prevent the ball from going across the line.
Freshman Melissa Shulman (Huntington, NY) upped B.U.'s lead to 2-0 at 21:29 when she converted on a rebound of a Cross shot. The Blue Hens, who fell to 4-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the conference, pulled to within 2-1 just 3:11 into the half when Megan McFadden beat Terrier sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Clinton (Valley Stream, NY).
B.U. got that goal back when sophomore Lesley Garvey (Hopewell Junction, NY) hit a ball from 30 yards out that went just beyond Bersin's reach.
B.U. outshot Delaware, 17-12, but the Blue Hens had the edge in corner kicks, 4-1.
