Enos Leads Terriers Past Northwestern In OT
September 10, 1999 | Women's Soccer
EVANSTON, Ill. (September 12) -- Junior forward Deidre Enos (Milton, MA) scored a pair of goals, the second coming at the 114:58 mark to lift the Terrier women's soccer team to a 4-3 overtime decision over Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois on Sunday (September 12th).
It also earned a split of a weekend series against Big 10 schools for the Terriers. On Friday night, B.U. was blanked by Illinois, 3-0, in a game played at Northwestern.
Against Northwestern, the Terriers jumped to a 2-0 lead on a first-half goal by sophomore Nicole Soules (Springfield, VA) and a second-half tally by Enos. Soules' goal was scored at the 11:32 mark with an assist to Allison Merkle (Baltimore, MD).
Then, at the 49:10 mark of the match, Enos scored with an assist to Annalisa Rodovsky (Chappaqua, NY).
Northwestern then cut the Terriers' lead to 2-1 before Mary-Beth Magner (Plymouth, MA) staked the Terriers to another two-goal lead. Her goal, which was assisted by Molly Nolan (Winchester, MA), was scored at 59:56.
But, Northwestern came back to score a pair of unanswered goals, the second coming at the 85:53 juncture of the game.
Neither team scored for the remaining 4:07 of regulation and for the first 24:58 of overtime.
That set the stage for Enos' game-winner which was unassisted. She used her speed to outrace a Northwestern defender to the ball and blasted one past the Wildcats' goalie for the game-winner.
The trip to Evanston, Ill for the weekend series marked the first time in the four-plus-year history of women's soccer at B.U. that the Terriers played against Big Ten rivals.
