BOSTON - Placing fifth in this year's Terrier Twelve is the Boston University men's cross country team capturing its 11th America East championship and graduate student Eric Ashe finishing second in a field of 84 competitors.

Racing at nearby Franklin Park, Ashe guided the Terriers to their first league title since 2000 with a blistering 24:22.29 finish in the 8K run, as he went on to earn all-conference honors. His time ranks as the fifth fastest in AE championship history.

Joining Ashe on the America East All-Conference Team were freshman Rich Peters and junior Robert Gibson. Peters (24:50.11) and Gibson (24:56.83) finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, at the championships.

Securing crucial points at the championship was junior Matthew Paulson (11th, 24:58.34) and junior Peter Gilmore (17th place, 25:10.74). They helped the Terriers conclude the event with 45 points, a staggering 97-point improvement from the 2009 championships. Defending champion Binghamton took second with 54 points, while Albany placed third with 60 points.

Ashe's runner-up finish was the top result by a Terrier since Jochen Dieckfoss won his fourth consecutive title in 2003. In addition, head coach Bruce Lehane and the men's cross country coaching staff earned coaching staff of the year honors for the 10th time in program history.

The Terriers went on to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, where they finished seventh with Ashe leading the way with a time of 30:23.7 in the 10K course - good for 16th overall. The squad closed out the fall season with a 19th place finish at the IC4A and ECAC Championship.
