Highlighted by a program-record five cup victories and a freshman eight grand final appearance in the national championship regatta, the Boston University men's crew has claimed the No. 7 slot on the Terrier Twelve.
Entering the season ranked 12th nationally, the Terriers made program history by capturing both the Michalson Cup and freshman eight races against then-No. 5 Brown for the first time ever in one year. The varsity eight boat coxed by junior Bobby McGee and stroked by sophomore Todd Sukolsky won by 6.8 seconds to defeat the Bears for the second time in three years and fourth time dating back to 1980.
BU looked to carry the momentum from wins over Northeastern (Arlett Cup) and No. 14 Dartmouth (Bill Cup) heading into a difficult match-up against No. 8 Syracuse (Conlan Cup) and No. 12 Columbia (Lusins Cup) in New York. The river conditions were rough, but the Terriers overcame them to defeat the Orange for the first time since 2005 and the Lions for the second time in three years, setting a school record for five cup victories in a single year.
No. 6 Wisconsin prevented BU from claiming an undefeated dual season with a thrilling 0.3 second victory on the Charles River. The Terriers rebounded at the Eastern Sprints by being one of only three programs to have both the V8 and F8 boats reach the Grand Final.
In the IRA Regatta, the F8 boat coxed by Tennyson Hunt and stroked by Moritz Franz stole the spotlight from the varsity crew by placing fifth in the Grand Final at the IRA National Championship. The Terriers required an extra race to reach the semifinals, but that did not stop them from setting a school record for the highest placement ever by a BU F8 boat at the IRAs.
