This summer, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.
Coming in at No. 6 in this year's Terrier Twelve is the women's rowing team wining the Patriot League title in dramatic fashion to earn a second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.
Trailing Navy by five points, the Terriers' varsity eight boat entered the final race of the Patriot League Championship needing a small miracle. Coxed by senior Sarah Specht and stroked by junior Claire Richer, the V8 did its part, winning the Grand Final with a time 7:14.58 to earn 27 points.
Navy finished fourth with a time of 7:21.84 and received just 18 points. The nine-point difference allowed the Terriers to pull ahead of the Midshipmen and win the championship by four points (49-45).
Earlier in the competition, the second varsity eight, coxed by freshman Marlaina Miller and stroked by classmate Kelli Wegner, finished third in the Grand Final with a time of 7:43.22 to earn 14 points behind Navy (7:30.46) and Bucknell (7:34.82) to set the stage for the dramatic finish.
The varsity four boat, coxed by junior Eline Vermeulen and stroked by sophomore Jo MacCune, battled the wind and rain to place second behind in the Grand Finals to earn eight valuable points.
With the dramatic come-from-behind Patriot League Championship victory, the women's rowing team claimed an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis for the second-consecutive year. The team previously won the CAA Championship in 2013 before BU's move to the Patriot League.
During the NCAAs, the Terriers raced hard to place ahead of the Atlantic 10 and MAAC champions in the final standings.
