This summer, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.
Coming in at No. 11 in this year’s Terrier Twelve is sophomore Stephanie Nasson’s school record-breaking performance at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships held in Minneapolis, Minnesota from March 20-22.
Nasson set new school marks while making her NCAA debut in the 500 freestyle (4:46.94) and 1650 freestyle (16:17.71). During her 1650 freestyle race, she also set the program record for the 1000 freestyle with a split time of 9:51.10.
The Wrentham, Massachusetts native was the first female swimmer from BU to compete in the NCAA Championships since 1988. She joined former Terriers Gretchen Ebner (1988 – 100 & 200 backstroke) and Sybil Smith (1986-88 – 50 & 100 freestyle) as the only female swimmers to qualify for two events at a NCAA Championship.
The sophomore used a strong performance at the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships to propel her to the national stage. Nasson won the 500 freestyle in a school-record time (4:47.42) and also set a new school, league and meet record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:20.32 to place first in the event.
Nasson was named the Patriot League’s Women’s Swimmer of the Meet for her efforts while also earning a spot on the All-Patriot League First Team. In addition to her two first-place performances, she finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.75) and also swam a leg of the Terriers 800 freestyle relay team which set a new school record while placing second.
Her efforts helped the Terriers captured a third-place finish at their first Patriot League Championship.
