BOSTON - The No. 20 Boston University men's lacrosse team stayed undefeated in Patriot League play with a 10-8 home victory over No. 13/14 Army West Point on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Sophomore Timothy Shannehan (3g, 1a) and senior Jimmy Kohr (2g, 1a) combined for seven points in the victory. The Terriers never trailed in the game, breaking a 4-4 tie with a five-goal run that spanned the end of the first half and the early stages of the third quarter.

Seven different Terriers found the back of the net on Saturday, with junior James Lapina scoring his first collegiate goal. Senior Ethan Hart, senior Sam Burns, freshman Peyton Forte and sophomore Andrew Pape also scored a goal. Junior Tyler Fox, sophomore Finn Lawrence and senior Connor Kehm each chipped in one assist.
Junior Logan Styles recorded a career-best four caused turnovers and also had one ground ball. Senior Matt Freeman recorded four ground balls and one caused turnover while junior Murphy McLaughlin notched one caused turnover and gathered three ground balls. Kehm and junior Luke Davis each collected one ground ball and one caused turnover.
BU improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in Patriot League play with its sixth straight win over Army while the Black Knights fall to 6-2 with a 1-2 PL mark.HOW IT HAPPENED
- Burns opened the scoring just 47 seconds into the proceedings, but the Black Knights responded at 12:16 to even the score.
- Pape replied 50 seconds later to make it 2-1 and Shannehan followed with his first goal of the day at 8:54 to make it 3-1.
- Army tallied twice in a span of 40 seconds to tie the game at 3-3 with 5:04 left in the opening quarter.
- Sophomore Connor Phillips made sure the game stayed tied with 3:45 left in the opening quarter with a spectacular stop. Phillips was out of the cage during a 10-man ride and raced back to deny Gunnar Fellows from scoring what looked to be a sure goal.
- Kohr scored only 37 seconds into the second quarter to give BU a 4-3 lead, though Army answered at 11:50 to once again tie the game.
- That was the last time the game was tied, as Lapina scored in transition to make it 5-4 with 10:18 on the clock.
- Shannehan made it 6-4 with 9:04 to play in the first half and then scored again with 3:18 remaining to make it a 7-4 contest at the break.
- Forte and Kohr scored 1:50 apart to make it 9-4 at 11:26 of the third quarter.
- Drew Miller ended the Terrier run at 8:49 before Hill Plunkett and Fellows scored 1:00 apart to cut the Terrier lead to 9-7 with 5:49 left in the third.
- Neither team broke through until Army made it a one-goal game with 8:58 remaining in regulation.
- Hart scored a crucial insurance goal with 6:27 to go. Lawrence threw ball from behind GLE to Hart at the top of the box. Hart sent his defender diving to the ground with a shot-fake before firing home a goal to make it 10-8.
- Army had the ball out of a timeout with 1:44 to play, but Phillips made one save, BU blocked another shot and the third attempt went wide before Davis helped force an errant pass in the final 20 seconds that sealed the result.
- Shannehan's next point will be the 100th of his career.
- Kohr extended his goal scoring streak to 23 games, all of which have been multi-point games.
- Sophomore Madden Murphy and freshman Mike Ramirez combined to go 11-for-22 at the faceoff X, with Murphy grabbing four ground balls and Ramirez scooping up two ground balls.
- Both teams cleared the ball well, with BU going 29-of-31 and Army West Point going 17-for-20.
- The teams combined to go 0-for-3 on their man-up chances.
- Phillips made eight saves for the Terriers and Army's Sean Byrne stopped 13 shots.
- BU will travel to Colgate on Saturday, March 21.
- Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
