Terriers Tie Pair of Program Season Records with 11-0 Romp at Boston College

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Highlighted by junior Kayla Roncin's grand slam and senior Allison Boaz's strong pitching performance, the Boston University softball team rolled to a 11-0 run-rule victory at ACC rival Boston College on Tuesday evening.

With their largest margin of victory in the annual BC rivalry since a 16-0 win in 1994, the Terriers (43-7) tied a program season record for both wins (43) and shutouts (22). The 11 runs were the most allowed by the Eagles (21-25) this season, topping the 10 given up in a 10-2 loss at Georgia Tech.

Roncin went a perfect 4-for-4 with all season-high five RBIs occurring in the 10-run fifth inning. Both senior Caitlin Coker and freshman Brooke Deppiesse tallied two RBIs apiece with senior Audrey Sellers adding the other. Junior Lauren Keleher scored the game's first run in the first and would reach home plate two more times thanks to Roncin's efforts.

In the circle, Boaz (19-4) recorded four strikeouts against just one walk to limit BC to a pair of hits for the Terriers. She needed just 55 pitches, while the Eagles' staff totaled 113 pitches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Keleher earned a lead-off walk that led her advancing to second on Roncin's single to left, moving to third on a passed ball and eventually scoring on a Coker's RBI ground out.
  • Boaz earned a quick 1-2-3 in the bottom half and added two more strikeouts in the third to help BU maintain the 1-0 lead.
  • Deppiesse started the fourth with a single to left but ended up stranded at third after Abby Durning (10-9) earned a strikeout and infield pop up.
  • Keleher started the fifth with a one-out walk to set up back-to-back RBI doubles from Roncin and Coker.
  • After Gant singled through the left side, she advanced to second on the throw and eventually scored alongside Coker on Deppiesse's two-RBI single.
  • Junior and reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Lauren Nett helped Deppiesse score on a fielding error and then pushed the lead to 7-0 on Sellers' RBI single down the third base line.
  • Following Keleher's two-out infield single, Roncin blew open the game with a grand slam to left on a 2-1 pitch for the 11-0 advantage.
  • BC tried to mount a rally with a one-out walk and single, but Boaz shut the door by earning a shallow fly to center and then a swinging strikeout.
