January 2, 2018 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior goaltender Erin O'Neil of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
O'Neil was brilliant in the Terriers' 1-1 draw at Princeton on Dec. 31. She made a season-high 41 saves, including 16 across the third period and overtime, to preserve the result. O'Neil stopped the final 31 shots she faced on Sunday in her best statistical contest of the season. This is the first time this season and third time in her career that O'Neil has earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
A native of Minnetonka, Minnesota, O'Neil has been sharp over her last three starts. She has averaged 37.3 saves per game and has posted a .941 save percentage over that stretch.
BU will return to action this weekend when the Terriers welcome Maine to Walter Brown Arena for a two-game series. Puck drop on both Saturday and Sunday is set for 3 p.m.
