BOSTON – Max Silberlicht has been named an assistant coach of the Boston University men's lacrosse program, head coach
Ryan Polley announced on Thursday.
Silberlicht joins the Terriers after spending the last five seasons as an assistant coach at Bowdoin. He helped guide the Polar Bears to four winning seasons during his tenure there, including back-to-back 10-win campaigns over the last two years.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Max to the Terrier lacrosse family," Polley said. "His passion for coaching was evident during his interview process and we feel confident that we are adding one of the best young assistants in the game to our program. His five years at Bowdoin have prepared him well to help us recruit the highest-caliber student-athletes to Boston University and continue to compete at the highest level in the Patriot League. Max's tireless work ethic and competitive nature make him a perfect fit for our staff."
Silberlicht will be responsible for coaching the Terrier goalkeepers and assisting with the defense. Under Silberlicht's guidance, four Bowdoin players earned USILA All-America accolades this past season, including goalkeeper Peter Mumford. In addition, three Polar Bears received All-New England honors.
Prior to his role at Bowdoin, Silberlicht began his coaching career at Lynchburg College in Virginia. He served two seasons as an offensive assistant with the Hornets before joining Bowdoin in the summer of 2012.
Silberlicht is no stranger to Division I lacrosse, having shined as a goalkeeper at Hobart. A three-and-a-half-year starter for the Statesmen between the pipes, he posted a 9.24 goals against average with 18 wins, both program records. Silberlicht also recorded 553 saves with a .576 save percentage, both of which are second all-time at the school. In 2008, he broke the Hobart single-season goals against average (8.05) before breaking his own record the following year (7.91).
A native of New Hartford, New York, Silberlicht graduated Hobart in 2010. He then earned his Masters' degree in Educational Leadership from Lynchburg in 2012.
