CALGARY, Alta. - Former Boston University women's ice hockey standouts Marie-Philip Poulin ('15) and Jenn Wakefield ('12) will be centralized with Canada's National Women's Team in preparation for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Hockey Canada announced on Thursday.
This is the second straight time that both Poulin and Wakefield will be centralized ahead of the Winter Olympics. The duo won gold in 2014 in Sochi, with Poulin scoring the tying goal and overtime-winner in the gold-medal contest. Poulin is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Team USA in Vancouver in 2010. Wakefield won her first Olympic gold medal in 2014 along with former Terriers Catherine Ward ('11) and Tara Watchorn ('12).
Both Poulin and Wakefield played for Canada at the 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship, with Poulin serving as captain. The duo also skated for Canada at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship.
All 28 players named to Canada's National Women's Team centralization roster will begin their preparation with fitness testing in late May The players and staff will come together in Calgary this August on a full-time basis with Hockey Canada. As part of the preparation for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the 2017-18 season will be highlighted by the 2017 Four Nations Cup and other games that will be announced at a later date.
Canada's final 23-player roster for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games is tentatively scheduled to be determined in late December.
