WOMEN'S PREVIEW
BOSTON - Looking to improve upon last year's second-place team finish, the Boston University men's track & field teams will host the Patriot League Championships at the Track and Tennis Center beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday.
The championship begins Friday at noon with the first four events in the women's pentathlon followed by the men's heptathlon. The action continues on Saturday with the conclusion of the heptathlon as well as the men and women's weight throw, long jump and finals in the 5,000-meter runs and 4 x 800 relays.
The championship will conclude on Sunday with 24 track finals as well as the pole vault, triple jump and shot put.
On the men's side, the Terriers will once again be led by senior Cameron Williams who is the Patriot League's top performer in the 200 meters with his time of 20.85 set at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Feb. 3. Williams also enters the meet ranked fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.86.
At last year's PL Championships, Williams set a new school and PL record in the 200m dash with a winning time of 20.58 seconds and was named PL Male Track Athlete of the Year.
Senior Ethan Homan has the top time in the 1-mile of 4:00.08 set at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27, while junior Alex Seal has the second-best mile time with a 4:02.64 set at the David Hemery Valentine Invite on Feb. 11. In addition, freshman Paul Luevano has the top time in the 3000m run (8:03.88).
BU's men's distance medley team will be seeded No. 1 after crossing the finish line in 9:41.23 at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational. Seniors Matti Groll and Ethan Homan teamed with junior Cameron Nurse and sophomore Alexander Seal to set the new school standard in the event, besting the previous BU record of 9:43.21, set in 2007.
In the field, the Terriers will be led by senior David Oluwadara. The Boston, Mass. native is once again the top performer in the triple jump after breaking his own school record in the event with a mark of 16.07 meters (52' 8.75") on February 4. Oluwadara also enters the meet ranked fifth in the long jump (6.88m, 22' 7").
At last year's PL Championships, Oluwadara set a new PL record with a leap of 15.45 meters (50' 8.25") and also won the PL long jump on his way to being named PL Male Field Athlete of the Year.
As a team last year, the Terriers won 13 events, finished the championships with 195 team points - 59 more than previous year's total - and placed runner-up for the first time, behind Navy (225 points). BU also swept the individual awards as David Oluwadara (Field Athlete of the Year), Cameron Williams (Track Athlete of the Year) and Robie Webster (Rookie of the Year) all took home hardware.
In addition to the Patriot League Championships this weekend, the Boston University men's and women's track & field teams will host their annual alumni weekend celebration. After Saturday's competition, the Terriers will hold a brief Wall of Honor induction ceremony with a reception following at the TTC.
