BOSTON - After earning just one win in its final six October games, the No. 12/11 Boston University opens up its November schedule on Friday (Nov. 3) at Agganis Arena with the back end of a home-and-home with No. 6 Providence. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Friars earned a 3-0 home win on Saturday over the Terriers, who are just 1-3-1 at home thus far this season.
The Terriers and Friars first met in the 1926-27 season and have played 179 times since that encounter. BU leads the series, 107-56-16, and is 12-5-3 against Providence in their past 20 meetings but has just one win in the past seven (1-3-3). The Terriers are 13-4-3 (.725) against the Friars in the 20 meetings at Agganis Arena.
Providence is coming off an impressive weekend sweep at home of both BU and Boston College. Sophomore Josh Wilkins has a team-high six points on two goals and four assists while classmates Kasper Björkqvist (4g, 1a) and Jacob Bryson (1g, 4a) each have five points. Senior captain Brian Pinho is the leading returning scorer from last year's team, having scored 40 points (12g, 28a) as a junior.
Sophomore Hayden Hawkey has started all seven games this season and sports an .901 save percentage and a 2.50 goals-against average.
Done in by a three-goal second period from the home team, BU dropped a 3-0 contest at Providence last Saturday at Schneider Arena. After a scoreless first period, the Friars put three shots past BU netminder Jake Oettinger in the middle stanza.
Junior Bobo Carpenter leads the Terriers in both points (9) and goals (6) while sophomore Patrick Harper is right behind with eight points on four goals and four assists. Junior Jordan Greenway had added six points (1g, 5a) while freshman Shane Bowers (4g, 1a), sophomore Chad Krys (5a) and freshman Brady Tkachuk have contributed five points apiece.
Sophomore Jake Oettinger has started every game in goal this season for BU and has a 2.83 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
