Hanson Hailed as Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week
January 9, 2017 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior goaltender Victoria Hanson of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Hanson was sensational on Saturday as she helped the Terriers skate away from No. 6 Boston College with a 1-1 tie. She matched a career high with 45 saves, including nine stops in an overtime period that saw the Eagles earn a power-play chance. Hanson became just the second goaltender all season to hold BC to fewer than two goals, and is the only goaltender to accomplish that feat twice against BC over the last three seasons.
A native of Stoughton, Massachusetts, Hanson has made 45 saves in each of her last two starts. She enters Tuesday's tilt at UConn with a .931 save percentage and a 2.29 goals-against average.
