September 27, 2016 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON – Walter Brown Arena, the home for Boston University women's ice hockey, will host the 2017 Women's Hockey East Championship Weekend, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
The league's 15th anniversary season will conclude at BU the weekend of March 4-5. Two semifinal contests, tentatively scheduled for 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., will take place on Saturday, March 4, before Sunday's championship contest, which is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m.
"Walter Brown Arena is a terrific site for an event of this importance," said Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna. "We are thankful for Boston University's willingness to host and we are happy that our athletes will compete for this championship in such an historic venue."
BU last hosted the league's final weekend in 2011. The Terriers have enjoyed tremendous success in the Hockey East Tournament in their 12-year history, winning the Bertagna Trophy a record five times, including four straight victories from 2012-2015.
"Our program is proud to take on the responsibility of hosting Hockey East's championship weekend," BU head coach Brian Durocher said. "I'm confident that our entire administration and staff will do a great job in making it a world-class event and we look forward to supporting the league and all its great teams."
Information regarding ticket sales and surrounding events will be released at a future date.
