Comm Ave Charity Classic Raises $55K for Travis Roy Foundation, CCALS
July 15, 2016 | Men's Ice Hockey
Hockey teams from Boston College and Boston University hit the ice again on Friday for the second annual Comm Ave Charity Classic, as alumni faced off at Walter Brown Arena to raise more than $55,000 for the Travis Roy Foundation and Compassionate Care ALS.
Jack Parker returned to the bench at Walter Brown Arena as 17 of his former players came back to campus to participate in the event, ranging from Shawn McEachern, who starred at BU from 1988-91, all to way to recent grads Matt Grzelcyk and Danny O'Regan.
Former BC players Pat Mullane and Andrew Orpik started the event last year in honor of longtime BC sports information director Dick Kelley, who lost his battle with ALS in 2014, and former BC baseball captain Pete Frates, who continues to put up an inspirational fight against the disease. This year, the event also partnered with the Travis Roy Foundation. Roy, who was paralyzed in his first college hockey game as a Terrier at Walter Brown nearly 21 years ago, has helped hundreds of others who have suffered spinal-cord injuries through his foundation.
BU won last year's event but the Eagles exacted revenge and skated away with a 13-8 victory in the second annual summer showdown.
The Terriers got goals from eight different players, including McEachern, O'Regan, Colby Cohen, Sean Sullivan, Evan Rodrigues, Peter MacArthur, Adam Clendening and Brandon Yip. Jay Gandolfo Chris Higgins and Nick Bonino chipped in with two assists apiece while Anthony Moccia and Matt O'Connor split time in the BU goal.
