CALGARY, Alta. - Three members of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were invited to Hockey Canada's National Women’s Program strength and conditioning camp, taking place May 4-8, in Hamilton, Ontario.
Sophomores Victoria Bach, Rebecca Leslie and Savannah Newton will represent BU at the five-day camp. The trio will participate in on- and off-ice sessions, which will introduce and reiterate Hockey Canada’s expectations in areas such as nutrition, mental conditioning, physical fitness, testing, training, and other positive daily behaviors.
All three Terriers had career years in 2015-16. Bach was a Second Team Hockey East All-Star after a second straight 20-goal season. The Milton, Ontario, native totaled career highs in goals (22), assists (26) and points (48) in 39 games. Leslie was also a Second Team Hockey East All-Star after recording career highs in points (49), goals (15) and assists (34). She led the Terriers in points and also led the nation with eight shorthanded points and five shorthanded goals. Newton was the team's Most Improved Player this past season. In 38 games she recorded a career-high six assists and was a plus-7. Newton was a plus-9 in league play.
Players selected for this camp are in consideration for the Canadian teams that will compete in a three-game series against the United States this summer in Calgary, as well as at the 2017 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship and 2017 Nations Cup, and with Canada’s National Women’s Team.
