Highlights
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Minnesota scored three times in the first period to take a 3-0 lead.
- The Gophers scored just 1:48 into the proceedings on the power play.
- They then took advantage of some good fortune, as a BU stick broke on a Terrier power play at the top of the offensive zone. Kate Schipper swiped the puck and went all the way to make it 2-0.
- The Gophers extended the lead to 3-0 at 7:47 of the first period.
- BU had good movement on its second power play of the period, with Parker nearly scoring on the doorstep, but the Terriers were unable to break through.
- Minnesota extended the lead to 4-0 with 3:30 to play in the middle frame in a fairly even period in which the Terriers racked up seven of their 15 shots on goal.
- Parker used a terrific individual effort to score her goal with 8:53 remaining in regulation. She forced a turnover at the BU blue line and raced up the left wing before uncorking a shot that beat Sidney Peters (14 saves).
- Senior Samantha Sutherland was robbed in that third period by a Peters glove save, and Parker also hit the post. The Gophers then sealed the game with a marker by Lee Stecklein with at the 13:36 mark.
GAME NOTES
- Parker is now tied for second in the NCAA and first in Hockey East with 17 goals.
- She has tallied a goal in 10 of her last 11 games.
- Hanson bested her previous career high of 41 saves, which she achieved in a 4-1 win over Princeton on Nov. 26.
- This was the first time BU hosted Minnesota at Walter Brown Arena.
- BU held Minnesota's top-ranked power play to just one goal in four chances. Hanson made seven of her 45 saves while shorthanded.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers and Gophers will conclude this weekend's series on Saturday at 3 p.m.
