HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Clayton Keller gave the Terriers a 4-3 lead at 15:44 of the third with his second goal of the night but the Huskies potted an extra-attacker goal with 55.6 seconds left in regulation to force the third tie of the final period.
- Northeastern opened the scoring 6:57 into the contest on a 5-on-3 advantage before Keller executed a shorthanded wraparound just 17 seconds later.
- Freshman Patrick Curry used a nifty redirect from the inner edge of the right circle to record his first collegiate goal and give BU a 2-1 lead at 17:22 of the first.
- The teams then went exactly 25 minutes without a goal before the Huskies drew even at 2-2 with another power-play tally 2:22 into the third.
- A tip-in at the foot of the slot by sophomore Jordan Greenway at 8:55 of the third allowed BU to regain the lead at 3-2.
- That advantage was wiped out just over two minutes later when Northeastern got a goal from Dylan Sikura, making it a 3-3 affair.
- Keller gave BU its third-one goal cushion with a power-play tally, as his effort from the high slot beat NU netminder Ryan Ruck high glove-side thanks to a screen.
- With Ruck pulled, an attempt from the high slot by Ryan Shea was tipped in by Zach Aston-Reese to send the game into overtime.
- Freshman Jake Oettinger finished the night with 26 saves for the Terriers while Ruck made 32 stops.
GAME NOTES
- Oettinger had his shutout skein come to end at 134:14, which ended up being the sixth-longest by a goaltender in program history
- Freshman Patrick Harper earned an assist and has at least one point in all six games to start his career, resulting in a team-best nine points on two goals and seven assists.
- The Terriers have five shorthanded goals through six games after tallying only two all of last season.
- BU went 1-for-7 on the power play and killed off five of the Huskies' seven man-up chances.
- A streak of 22 straight successful BU penalty kills came to an end with the 5-on-3 marker by Garret Cockerill to open the scoring.
