Rodgers Recognized as WHEA Player of the Week
November 28, 2016 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Junior Nina Rodgers of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
No other skater - male or female - had more assists than Rodgers had this past week. She recorded five helpers in addition to a goal for a six-point stretch over three games, highlighted by a three-point effort in a 4-1 win over Princeton on Friday. Those three points (1g, 2a) were a career high, with the two assists matching the career mark she set on Tuesday night in a 4-3 overtime win at Harvard.
Rodgers assisted on both of the Terriers' overtime-winning goals this past week, collecting the primary helper on Tuesday's clincher and starting the play that led to the deciding goal on Saturday against Princeton. Her goal on Friday was crucial as it extended the BU lead to 3-1 late in the third period. She finished the week as a plus-5 and completed the month of November as a plus-14.
BU will return to the ice on Friday when the Terriers hit the road to begin a home-and-home series with UConn.
